African Kombo Butter Unrefined

Kombo butter or Kombo oil is produced from the seeds of a tropical tree Pycnanthus angolensis (African nutmeg)

Origin: Ghana

Color: Dark Brown/Reddish Hue

Odor: Earthy-Sweet hint

100% natural, cold-pressed

Kombo Butter has a very high in Myristoleic acid. The texture is a bit grainy, but it is okay to use as is or it can be melted and filtered out for a smoother application. Highly Antioxidant butter, truly may be the most stable of all the butters that 3CayG currently carry. This butter has very great potential for many cosmetic uses. Great for message therapy, Scrubs, Skin Care, and Haircare.

Exactly what I ordered

This is exactly what I ordered. I am making a pain lotion with this as an ingredient.

a bit odd at 1st but I really like it, espeically in salve

The butter by itself is not as pleasant as other butters. It has a pudding consistency but with a grit to it that was not a nice sensation when applying it to skin even if is mostly melts. It was tricky at 1st to get out of the plastic bag and into the tub but I warmed it in the sink a bit and that helped a lot. The smell is odd. I can understand how someone else said fishy, but to me it is like if sardines didn't smell fishy if you can imagine- a savory and smoky umame smell with some earthy warm cocoa/spice under it. I will say why it is an odd scent it is not strong on a person and changes with body chemistry to be more smoky cocoa spice. When I had it applied to my arms and was sitting beside someone who is sensitive to smells it was not noticeable to them. It does tint pale skin a bit.

I have so far used it to make a pain salve with my homemade herbal infusion and this is where it rocks. The texture issues disappear and the consistency is perfect. The scent is easy to over power if you like. I will be making more for myself and for gifts. I did notice the skin where I applied it was extra soft after so I am going to try it in a body butter as well.

It's OK

Kombo butter is unique, that's for sure. It smells oddly like fish and mushrooms to me, such a savory smelling butter that's definitely an acquired taste, but the plus side is that if you dilute it with other oils, the smell is hardly noticeable. The pudding like texture makes it easy to apply, but it's also really sticky and grainy, which is kind of off-putting. I used it for hair care and while it was OK, I didn't find it remarkable enough to want to keep using it. It's about as moisturizing as olive oil, nothing spectacular. Even when diluted with other oils, it still leaves behind a grainy residue that I didn't care for either. This butter is more well-known for aches and sores, I can't attest to if it works for that, but I'd say if you're going to use this butter, it's probably put to better use for that than for hair care.
